Nagato rejects Naruto and Jiraiya’s dreams of a victimless world, convinced that human nature makes such dreams impossible. Naruto declares that he will end the vicious circle of hatred that has become a curse on the world. This was a direct quote from Jiraiya’s book The Tale of the Completely Fearless Shinobi. Amazed at what he heard, Nagato remembered that the basis for the main character in the book, Naruto, was himself. Not only was Naruto named after a character in the book, he also held the views of that character, which were once Nagato’s views as well. Since Naruto was chosen to bear the burden of the world on himself, Nagato decided to trust Naruto and the ideas he himself had once abandoned.
