The Hokage position was created shortly after the creation of Konoha by Hashirama Senju, one of the founders of the village.
The Hokage (火影, literally means: Fire Shadow) is the Kage of Konohagakure, a title bestowed upon the leader of the village. In essence, the Hokage is the most recognized and powerful shinobi in the village of Hidden Leaf as well as the ruler of the village. There have been seven Hokages in the history of the village.
In order to become a hokage, one must pass the chunin exam, then the jounin exam, then the sanin exam, and only after that can one become a hokage. But as history shows, there are always exceptions.
The hokage usually chooses his successor. If they die or are otherwise incapacitated, the next Hokage is instead chosen by the daimyo in the Land of Fire with recommendations from his committee, the Konoh Council, the Jonin Commander and the Anbu representative. This choice must then be approved by the Jonin of Konoha.
Contents
First Hokage: Hashirama Senju
Hashirama was one of the main founders of Konoha and an outstanding leader.
He was not as organized as his younger brother, but the villagers considered him a “Shinobi God,” so everyone respected him.
With the mastery of the Element of Wood, even Susanoo Madara and the strength of the Nine-Tail could not stop the First Hokage.
Second Hokage: Senju Tobirama
Growing up during the Warring States period, Tobirama succeeded Hashirama in running Konoha.
He seemed to be the only Hokage capable of bringing order to the needs of the village, as he often gave up his own happiness to take care of the affairs of Konoha.
As Hokage, Tobirama created the ANBU, the Ninja Academy, and the Chunin Exams. He has done so much for Konoha and is undoubtedly an example to other leaders!
Third Hokage: Hiruzen Sarutobi
Hiruzen took over as leader after the Second Hokage left on a suicide mission.
As Hokage, Hiruzen was able to maintain the stability previously created by Hashirama and Tobirama. However, he did little for the village, at least that’s what the series convinces us.
Hiruzen may not have created new roles and systems; however, he was able to maintain order in Konoha, which is a plus.
Fourth Hokage: Minato Namikaze
Minato took over as Hokage after the Third Hokage announced his resignation. As Hokage, unfortunately Naruto’s father failed to stand out, as he died almost as soon as he became leader.
Although he was the youngest Hokage, books and the people of Konoha proclaim Minato a hero who saved the village and its inhabitants from the clutches of the formidable Nine-tail.
Fifth Hokage: Tsunade
Tsunade is the granddaughter of the First Hokage, who succeeded Hiruzen. She did not want to become Hokage at first, but was almost forced into the position after the death of the Third.
As Hokage, Tsunade not only saved the village from financial crisis, but also defended it as best she could, which was evident when she did not hesitate to face Paine.
Sixth Hokage: Hatake Kakashi
Kakashi was the Sixth Hokage of Konoha. He was a prodigy from an early age, but only became known and dangerous to everyone in the ninja world after he received Obito’s Sharingan.
As a teacher, Kakashi was an exceptional leader, helping Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura for years.
As a leader, however, we sadly do not know. Kakashi became a leader after the Fourth World War shinobi, so we haven’t seen what he did to develop the village. Despite that, he’s Kakashi, so he must have been a peerless leader.
Seventh Hokage: Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto is currently the Seventh Hokage of the village.
The child of prophecy has inherited Kakashi’s rank and has undoubtedly done much for the village.
In addition to further unifying other lands, Naruto has ensured the technological success of Konoha, leading the village to new horizons. Naruto became a formidable ninja, and it was undoubtedly a pleasure to see him achieve his goals.
