Sasuke tries to prove the inconsistency of Tobi’s story. He points out that Itachi tried to take his eyes and kill him, to which Tobi says it was only to lure Orochimaru out and rid Sasuke of his influence. Instead, he blames the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox attack on Tobi and says that he thereby caused the demise of the Uchiha clan. Tobi claims that he wasn’t involved and that the fox attack was an accident. Sasuke switches to Itachi’s actions – those of a criminal. The only proof that Tobi was telling the truth about Itachi’s good intentions was that Sasuke survived. Accepting that Itachi orchestrated his own death, prolonging his life in the face of terminal illness so that Sasuke could kill him, Sasuke indulges in memories of his brother.
