Even though Jiraiya had figured out who Paine was, he could neither speak nor move. His life began to fade and he began to reflect on the many failures of his life: he could not protect the Third Hokage as well as the Fourth Hokage; he could not save Orochimaru; he could not win Tsunade’s heart; but saddest of all, he could not die with honor. He then recalls that Naruto was named after the protagonist of his first book, making him the rightful godfather of Naruto. Since Naruto’s ninja path consists of unyielding willpower, Jiraiya, as Naruto’s teacher, decides that this will be his ninja path as well. He finds the strength to send a message through Fukasaka with the assurance that Naruto will save the world.
