Vol.31 Chapter 278 – Gaara’s Death

Although Team 7 and Team Gaius attempt to escape, Kakashi, realizing that they will not be able to escape from the blast radius in time, uses Kamui on Deidara to move the blast into another dimension. Kakashi, exhausted by the overuse of Mangekyo Sharingan, later collapses to the ground without energy. Both teams move to the field, where Sakura tries to bring Gaara back to life. He was already dead by then, and there’s nothing she can do. Naruto starts sobbing and lashes out at Chiyo for sealing Shukaku inside Gaara in the first place, and thus becoming complicit in his death after “condemning” Gaara to solitude. Realizing Naruto is right, Chiyo proceeds to apply the life force transfer technique on Gaara.
