Released from Gaara’s sand, Deidara notes that Gaara apparently engages two sources of sand: the desert sand surrounding them, and another, a special kind of sand used in case of defense and targeted attacks. As the inhabitants of Hidden Sand watch the battle from the ground, Kankuro is reminded of Gaara’s desire to protect the village and its inhabitants at the cost of his life. The villagers are no longer afraid of Gaara, as they did in the past, calling to crush their opponent. Taking advantage of their presence, Deidara dropped a C3 bomb on the village. Gaara shielded the village from the blast, but shifting his attention almost got hit by one of Deidara’s clay bombs. Gaara’s Sand Shield blocked it in time and he later discovered himself that Deidara managed to hide the explosives in that particular sand. After triggering the explosives, Gaara used the rest of his energy to make sure that the sand overhanging the village would not fall on it, and afterwards Deidara seized it.
