Kakashi points out that Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura failed to get the bell because they acted on their own. Had they worked together, they might well have succeeded. Teamwork was the essence of this exercise, designed to allow the future ninja to put aside the fact that any of the three of them would return to the academy, for the sake of successfully completing the mission. Noticing that they have all completely missed the point, Kakashi almost gives up all hope, though he agrees to give them a second chance after lunch, but on the condition that Sakura and Sasuke not give Naruto any food. When Kakashi leaves, Sasuke and Sakura ignore his order and share the food with Naruto, since a hungry Naruto would be of no use, and they still need him for the bell dough if they act together. Suddenly Kakashi appears in front of them and announces that all three have passed the test, noting at the same time that team unity is far more important than simply following orders.
