Shizune enters Naruto’s room with the intention of correcting the boy’s impression of Tsunade and telling him about the First’s necklace. Tsunade changed the day she lost “her dream, her love and her hope. The only precious thing she has left is the necklace. Shizune explains that it is not ordinary and anyone who would wear it but Tsunade would die.
Meanwhile, Tsunade sits alone at the entrance gate to Tanzaka, remembering her loved ones. For her brother’s twelfth birthday, Tsunade gave him the Necklace of the First. He was very happy to receive such a gift, since it is a symbol of the village, and the village is the treasure of their grandfather, the First Hokage. The boy also wants to take the title. Later, she recalls how her brother died. During the village council, she suggests attaching ninja medics to squads, and Dan Kato, whom she later falls in love with, agrees. He too wants to become a Hokage like her dead brother, so she gives him a necklace. Unfortunately, Dan dies despite Tsunade’s attempts to stop the bleeding, causing her to develop hemophobia. After listening to Shizune’s story, Naruto goes to train.
