Gaara, partially transformed, attacks Sasuke, and Sasuke struggles to dodge. He mentally revisits an earlier meeting with Gaara, where Gaara explained his interest in killing Sasuke. Gaara notes that Sasuke has learned true loss and loneliness, and is now looking for strength. Since Gaara also possesses these traits, he believes they are the same. By killing Sasuke, Gaara proves his superiority and thus feels truly alive. Intent on not giving Gaara what he wants and making sure he can kill his brother Itachi, Sasuke attacks Gaara with Chidori.
