Tired of waiting for Gaara to attack, Sasuke Uchiha attacks himself. He develops very high speed and applies taijutsu to Rock Lee. Lee watches him and is amazed by Uchiha’s abilities. Kakashi explains that when he saw Rock Lee’s fighting style, Sasuke copied it with Sharingan. Kakashi made him train for an entire month to hone his speed as well. Lee knows from his experience that Gaara’s taijutsu alone won’t overpower him, and Maito Gai thinks that speed is important for something else. Gaara forms a ball of sand around himself to protect himself from Sasuke’s lightning attacks and prepare for his transformation. Sasuke cannot penetrate the shield, relying solely on speed. Naruto Uzumaki, worried that his comrade might die, runs into the arena to try to stop the match. However, Kakashi insists that he and Sasuke are late for a reason.
